You Can Do Anything You Want
Fire
I’ve always told my daughter “You can do anything you want”, which is something I watched my mother do as a single parent raising four children. She pursued her biggest dream of becoming an actress at an age some might consider too old. But it’s what she wanted to do and she always said, “You can do anything you want.”
I remember running lines with her, watching her rehearse, perform and entertain on stage. I remember the disappointments as well, the frustrations and devastation when she didn’t get the role or commercial she so wanted. But most of all I remember the fire she had for her craft.
She made great strides and finally broke through, hitting a milestone when sadly, she became ill with cancer and very quickly lost that battle. But she went for her dream and achieved it.
I remember her describing that “fire”, as I attempted to understand what this fascination with acting was all about. She described it as “a burning desire in your belly.” A burning for something you love and aspire to be or achieve. I understood it perfectly at the age of twelve; I understand it completely today as well.
Mom Was Right
Mom was right, you can do anything you want. So I tell my daughter the same thing and she believes it. Why? Because Dad told her. Yes and because it’s true, as she has seen and more importantly proven to herself with her own success’s of late.
It’s also true because I watched my mother do exactly what she wanted to do in her life. Not because she was lucky or even the best actress; but because she had a “burning in her belly“, she believed she could do it and she went out and did it.
Through the disappointments, let downs and failures. Failures which I understand today not as such, because failing didn’t make her a failure, but her persistence surpassed what were mere hurdles.
Belief
So whats the rub? By now you know where I’m going here. Simple. Do you have a burning in your belly? Do you believe you can do anything you want?
No matter what you decide to do in life which is worthwhile or challenging, the genesis and ultimate success of that decision begins, and yes ends, with your belief. Period. If you believe you can………you can. It’s simplistic and cliche-ish, yet easy to miss. And, we often do.
Strategy And Desire
Your ability to succeed at anything boils down to two things, desire and strategy, 85% 15% split. Belief is of course very quickly followed by action. So if your belief is without question then your resolve is intact; and it must be because you will slip, stumble and fall on your way to success and in pursuit of excellence.
Given all that, it will be one of the most rewarding and phenomenally empowering things in your life which can’t be described. It can only be experienced and that happens when you’re in the midst of it.
Am I here to blow sunshine up your skirt? No. But I am here to shoot straight. There are no secret tricks or magic buttons to starting your own online business folks. But I will tell you what there is. There is simply a process. And it’s a process that will work if you follow it. And.
If you have a burning in your belly.
